The Automotive Services Council of Kentucky (ASC) represents Collision Repair Facilities throughout Kentucky. Our Association serves the most professional and progressive shop owners in the state. IN KENTUCKY, WHEN YOU ARE IN AN ACCIDENT YOU CAN GET YOUR VEHICLE REPAIRED AT THE SHOP OF YOUR CHOICE. You do not have to go to a shop that the insurance company has chosen. You do not have to get two or three estimates. You have the legal right to obtain an estimate from the shop of your choice. You have the right to tell the insurance company that is where your vehicle will be repaired. Insurance companies have relationships with certain collision repair shops, called direct repair programs. In exchange for referrals, the repair shops often will lower their prices. This makes the shop a good choice for the insurance company because it saves them money. Some insurance companies are telling customers they won’t guarantee the work if they take the vehicle to a shop they haven’t chosen. This is a play on words and meant to confuse and intimidate you. Insurance companies’ sell insurance they do not guarantee repair work. Each individual shop guarantees their work. We are not anti-insurance or anti-DRP. We are pro-consumer. We think that every customer should be treated fairly and allowed his legal right to choose his own repair shop. Only when consumers are allowed free choice, and shops allowed to make a profit are consumers guaranteed a quality, safe repair.
